Patients – We want our patients & parents to be cooperative, informed and committed to their treatment. We have our patients sign a commitment form, so that they understand that we need them to be 100% involved in their treatment.

Your Family – Successful treatment is a team effort with everyone working together… the patient, parents, Dr. Shackleton, our staff and your family.

Keep your regularly scheduled appointments.

Maintain recall visits with your General Dentist.

Practice good cleaning and flossing until you achieve effective oral hygiene.

Adhere to the food and drink guidelines below.

Be cooperative with instructed guidelines for your elastics, retainers and all other removable types of appliances.
Respecting your appliances means that you can avoid breakage, allowing your teeth to move quickly and efficiently as possible. Appliances can tolerate only so much stress before giving way.

Food, Candy and Drinks to avoid:

  • Chewy, sticky candy – Gummy Bears, Skittles,
  • Airheads, caramels, taffy
  • Candy with nuts
  • Popcorn
  • Apples & candied apples
    • All hard candy – no Jawbreakers, Jolly Rancher
